Thumbs up Netgamerz Mag: Guild Wars 2 Interview and screenies

Here's a short excerpt from an upcoming article in the April edition of NetGamerz magazine. I have posted some links to screenshots referenced in the article. Please follow the link provided for the full story.

Article: Guild Wars 2 and a Graphics Revolution (from http://www.netgamerzmag.com) Article and Interview by Leaf Manse

Quote:
NetGamerz Magazine had the opportunity to sit down and discuss the newly announced plans for Guild Wars 2 with ANet Graphics Lead Designer, Art Noel.

Chiefly, our interview focused on ANet's completely new graphical design in the next incarnation of the Guild Wars franchise.

NGM: Mr. Noel, you have been with ANet for a very long time, how would you characterize the changes we will see in Guild Wars 2 in light of ANet's past graphical considerations?

Art Noel: Well, it will be a surprise for many of our current Guild Wars players, but over all it will open up the game in so many ways that the design approach will be recognized for what it is.

NGM: And, what is that design approach?

Art Noel: It's radical, but to put it simply: it's going to be a high quality, 2D game engine. This engine will allow us to provide content on a massive scale. What used to take us months of work to model and render just small areas of the game world, will now only take us hours or days.

This also gives us more focus on story line and skill balancing. Efficiency and quality are a great combination and they really mesh well with our overall goals of providing free to play game with quality content.

NGM: That is pretty radical, I am glad you brought us some early screenshots for our readers to see for themselves.

Epic journey of the century! I can't wait. Maybe I'll even purchase a Guar-- er, I mean, a "Celestial Defender" upgrade.
